Fnan Gebremariam, an Eritrean, and Tahagos Kasa, an Israeli, met in 2020 at a restaurant where Fnan worked and immediately fell in love.
A year into their relationship, they contacted the Population Authority independently to obtain recognition of their relationship and a Boyfriend Visa. They encountered many challenges because Fnan’s certificates and documents could not be confirmed with the Eritrean authorities.
The couple, now a family of 3 with baby girl Miel, came to us at the beginning of November 2022 when their request wasn’t discussed yet. Then, our dedicated adv. Chen Weiss stepped in, and in two weeks, the Population Authority approved the request (subject to a bond), and in December 2022, Fnan received a work visa for a year as a spouse.
In February 2023, the couple went to Georgia to get married, and subsequently, we submitted a new request to change his status to that of a temporary resident.
After a long and tedious bureaucratic process, which included an interview and a legal precedent, in which the Ministry of the Interior agreed to accept and recognize certificates from Eritrea that were verified in Israel by the consul, the Population Authority recognized their marriage, registered him as the husband of Tahagos and granted him temporary residency for one year.
